Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Event to Honor the American University of Afghanistan

New York, June 24, 2014 - Goldman Sachs hosted a luncheon to honor the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), a longstanding partner of the firm’s 10,000 Women initiative.

Moderated by John F.W. Rogers, the firm’s chief of staff, the event convened international experts and firm leaders for a discussion highlighting the importance of investing in women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan. Since 2008, the firm’s collaboration with AUAF has provided over 300 women with the management education and support services necessary to grow their businesses and foster real social and economic progress throughout the country.

Participants at the event included Dr. Michael Smith, president of AUAF; Dina Habib Powell, global head of the Office of Corporate Engagement, president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, and head of Goldman Sachs Bank USA’s Urban Investment Group; Andi Bernstein, a board member of Women for Women International; Karen Hughes, worldwide vice chair of Burston-Marsteller and former Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs; Rangina Hamidi, CEO of Kandahar International; and Josette Sheeran, CEO of Asia Society.
