Innovating for a Sustainable Future
The RESTORE Fund was launched by Apple with a $200 million commitment to reduce and remove carbon from the atmosphere – and it’s designed to generate a profit.
The fund invests in projects that aim to improve the climate benefits of landscapes through tree planting and improved forestry management practices. As trees grow, they remove carbon from the atmosphere, and once mature, they’re responsibly harvested according to globally recognized and third-party certified practices, such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. With a future potential financial return from harvesting activities and the sale of properties, we believe the investments will motivate forest restoration by creating a viable financial model.
The goal is to remove 1 million metric tons of carbon from the atmosphere per year. Goldman Sachs serves as the fund’s investment manager. Conservation International is a co-investor and ensures projects meet environmental and social standards, from biodiversity to positive community impact like employment opportunities and skills development. This partnership supports the GS commitment to use the power of capital to help make the planet and our communities healthier.
