The Future of Engineering Lies in Africa: Our Annual Visit to Meet Students

28 FEB 2019

Goldman Sachs engineers and recruiters recently returned from Ghana and Nigeria where they met budding engineers and inspired them to pursue careers in the field in our third annual Africa Recruiting Initiative trip.

The 2019 Africa Recruiting Initiative cohort consisted of 60 students from eight schools in Ghana and 73 students from fifteen schools in Nigeria. Participants engaged in programming heavily focused on fostering technical skills around engineering. They were presented with project implementation tips from Goldman Sachs experts and then given a chance to test their skills via coding challenges through HackerRank. In addition to the technical side of things, students had a chance to hone their interview skills in workshops and by interviewing with our recruitment team.

Aside from the business aspect of the initiative—to recruit future Engineering talent for the firm—our professionals who participate each year say the best part is getting to meet and interact with the best and brightest students from around the continent. Our recruiters had the opportunity to learn more about them during networking sessions outside of workshop hours, as well as by sharing the experience of local culture and food.
