Goldman Sachs Summer Intern Insights — Volume 3

As our 2020 summer internship program comes to a close, we’re excited to share all that our interns were able to make possible. Through this last volume of the Summer Intern Insights series, we take a look at how they contributed to their teams and a few things they learned.

Zachary
Investment Banking Division, San Francisco

“In a recent speaker session, we got to hear from Zoom’s senior management about how the company supports people globally during this unprecedented time. The conversation, moderated by Nicole Irvin, allowed me to hear about Zoom’s mission of developing a platform that transforms the real-time collaboration experience and bolsters communication quality.”

Joseph
Global Markets, New York

“I have learned that over-communicating and intellectual curiosity are essential to be successful in this virtual work environment.  The firm has multiple tools to help you contribute to achieving your team’s goals, like Goldman Sachs University, where you can learn anything related to your role and other support platforms that connect different team’s efforts.”

Logan
Operations, Dallas

“I learned that no one is too junior to make things possible, and if you come forward with a great idea, you will be empowered to act on it. I offered to assist in recruiting more students from my HBCU (Historically Black College/University) and helped to facilitate a panel discussion with other alumni. We gave current students advice on how to best navigate their early Prairie View A&M University experience.”

Vishal

Engineering, Bengaluru

“I got a chance to work on a real project with huge business impact for the first time. I also got an opportunity to participate in the 2020 Intern Coding Contest and finished runner-up among 350+ interns.”

Beier

Risk Division, Hong Kong

“I had the opportunity to add value to my team and the firm by taking ownership of projects, especially COVID-related projects, to assist decision-making and credit analysis.”

Lizhi

Engineering, Singapore

“I made a contribution to improving the firm's data reliability and scalability through defining service standards and proper monitoring.”

Zoe

Engineering, London

“It has been exciting not only to write code but to meet the clients who had this vision and communicating with them to make their dream a reality. I have learned not only how to use new tools but to interact with people and use those tools to build a project that will outlast my time as an intern.”
