GS Employee Petitioned to Help Bring About Landmark India Supreme Court Ruling on Homosexuality

Romel Baral, an analyst in our Securities Division in Bengaluru, was one of the petitioners who helped challenge Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code—a law that criminalized homosexuality. On September 6, 2018, the Indian Supreme Court issued a decision saying that Section 377—to the extent that it criminalized private and consensual sexual acts of adults—was unconstitutional. Romel reflects on his decision to bring the petition forward and his reaction to the ruling.

2016 Student Art Project in Jersey City

Goldman Sachs recently celebrated its 12th season of the Student Art Project in Jersey City, New Jersey and showcased the artwork of 30 local students. Launched in 2005 with the Jersey City education, arts and nonprofit communities, the Student Art Project is a free arts and education program aimed to introduce students to new artistic mediums, environments, and topical issues within their community.
